She Wouldn’t Take Off Her Boots

On Thursday, we wandered around LeBaur Park in Greensboro to find this sculpture. It’s a 3d visualization of a photograph of a group of women right before they were murdered during the Liepāja massacre of December 15, 1941, a series of mass executions committed by the Nazis after the German occupation of Latvia. It was installed in April of this year.

It’s in a small garden tucked away near the library, not as close to the road as Google Maps indicated. There are roses all around it, still blooming. And a couple of bouquets had been left by other visitors.
